Big trucks and diggers are cool when you’re three years old. They’re still cool when you’re 40-something, but it’s a bit weird to define your life around them. That’s where Just Add Water‘s new VR game, DigVR comes in. You can explore, dig, build, and move stuff to your heart’s content, in the safety of your own home. And you don’t even have to have an extension built.
Their words about DigVR
Dig VR | Announcement Trailer | Meta Quest
23 April 2024Last week we teased that we were working on something special with our developers at Just Add Water.
Constructing a new reality in VR, Wired Productions and Just Add Water are delighted to reveal that Dig VR will be launching on Meta Quest and is the first-ever digger game on Quest. A brand new title and a new partnership, this simulator puts players in the driving seat of their own excavators. Starting off with nothing more than a mini-digger and a dream, players will unearth their cultivating passion in the charming town of Diglington. Progressing from a micro-sized digger to a colossal machine, with a diverse set of attachments to overcome the most challenging of jobs.
“DIG VR is a deeply personal game. The idea was conceived during the early days of lockdown, whilst I was stuck in my father’s farmland house in Italy, being separated from my team in the UK. Looking for things to do I hired a digger and that eureka moment came – the controls of the digger would be perfect for a VR game. I knew it was a great idea, but it was just that – an idea.” Said Leo Zullo, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Publisher Wired Productions.
Dig VR will be launching on Meta Quest and is the first-ever digger game developed exclusively for Meta Quest. A brand-new title and a new partnership, this simulator puts players in the driving seat of their very own diggers.

It’s on Meta Quest
It’s a little bit disappointing that the game is currently only on Meta Quest, not least because, well… it’s Facebook, but also there are other VR APIs out there (not least from the biggest digital games store on the planet). I’d imagine the Valve Index is perceived to be a bit long in the tooth now, having launched back in 2019. Honestly, Valve seem preoccupied with the Steam Deck right now, which certainly has more mass market appeal and has been a huge hit.
It’s like Diggerland, in your home
Ah, Diggerland, a holy Mecca for toddlers around the UK. And clearly an inspiration for DigVR, along with any time you have an extension built on your house, or walk past a building site.
There’s not a lot of information so far, but the game does claim a progression system culminating in a plethora of full sized excavators, diggers, and earth movers. There appear to be mini-games making use of physics and your skill with the equipment, as evidenced by the screenshot with the bowling alley and duck fishing.

The game is set in the quaint fictional town of Diglington, Digshire (obviously, which is quite possibly a neighbouring town to Chuggington, where all the trains live. DigVR will hopefully be a fun little sandpit for us overly large children to play in. The concept is ripe for ideas, and it would be absolutely great if JAW/Wired decide to implement mod tools for fans to enhance the game themselves. I could see a passionate and vibrant community building around DigVR.
You can wishlist DigVR over on the Meta Quest store, with a vague “when it’s ready” release date of ‘coming soon’ (which is the best way to do it, honestly).
